MEMBERS GALLERY CRITERIA

item30a1a1a1a1a1c1a1a2a1c

Thanks to all those who have sent in work for the Members Gallery. However it has come to light that we need to set a criteria for submission, while we do not wish to put people off, one of the aims of Scottish Photographers is to set a high visual standard and to emphasise (for the gallery) cohesive small bodies of work. We wish people to go beyond 'camera club' banality and mere technical exercises. We are not interested in how an image was created but what 'you' have created and carefully put together.

We will be meeting to discuss a way forward with this in due course.

FINALLY -

item30a1a1a1a1a1c1a1a2a

Due to a problems with retrieving changed passwords (two hours on the support line) by the old host server (Fasthosts) and changing over to a new server the SP site has been off-line for far to long. Our apologies and it's hoped that we won't have any future interruptions.
Scottish Photographers website is created on a purely voluntary basis but welcomes contributions.

NEW GALLERY SELECTION !! - at last

item30a1a1a1a1a1c1a1a2

For reasons unknown people seem so reluctant to send in work for possible inclusion to the Gallery section, its even been suggested by some that it becomes a prerequisite of membership, what after all is the point of claiming an interest in the photographic medium if you don't let people see your work.
This website and also the Notes needs people to be proactive and not to just sit back and let others come up with content.
Interestingly several regular contributors come from south of the border - their contribution is very welcome. Are Scots photographers just a bit lazy ?

HOWEVER the new selection is quite something. It would be unfair to highlight any one individual but the work ranges from the harrowing documentary imagery of Chris Leslie through the story telling of Anne Crabbe to the colourful abstractions of Anne Thompson. Excellent all.

Please note the website and gallery selection is overseen and not everything will go up. This obviously can upset some who send in work but needs must at times and I'm quite prepared to take the flak - george logan

SOURCE MAGAZINE

item30a1a1a1a1a1c1a1a2a1a1a

Issue 53 of Source magazine is just out and contains both excellent image making and articles. Of particular note in the latest issue is an interview with the excellent Hannah Collins.
Source does generally seem to have a much greater breadth of subject matter compared with Portfolio.
Source is a snip at £6

BLOGS

item30a1a1a1a1a1c1a1a2a1a1

Initially Blogs were an outflow of an individuals viewpoint and helped create a community from like minded individuals. One of the problems now with Blogs is that they've fallen flat with a general lack of interesting content, their well of ideas having run dry. Or the Blogger develops 'digital narcissism' were they become self opinionated and righteous, spouting views that are unqualified and academically ignorant, revealing their narrow mindedness.
Beware also blogs that for no relevant reason start promoting books their partner or relative has just written, showing pics of their cousins wedding or advertise soft porn, the latter as one popular site does.

The following seem to be maintaining a reasonably consistent viewpoint and show a genuine love of the medium, highlighting the work of little known photographers and who are generally open to ideas and thoughts.
