| Berlin 2004
It’s about noticing things.
People tend to disregard things, especially in everyday life, if they are not museum exhibits or objects of national pride. I made this photo story on my way to a museum in Berlin, but the outdoor patterns of colours and shapes of buildings, streets, fountains etc. amazed me even much more than the museum. This is how I see and remember Berlin. I never got around to famous monuments, which have come to symbolise Berlin and Germany – the photo story is not just another record of recognisable places in Berlin, yet it wasn’t my plan to avoid well-known places and objects and to go my ‘special’ way, I was simply amazed and could not help myself.
These photos could have been taken almost anywhere in the world, they are universal and I think that one of the things we take for granted is that we get used to and do not see amazing things around us - one does not have to travel around the world looking for them, they are always there. All you have to do is open your eyes.
To me photography is a form of dialogue, so if you feel like commenting on my work, please contact me. alina@alinakisina.co.uk | |
