Sonnets from Scotland
In my series "Sonnets from Scotland" I try to question the way in which the country presents itself, and examine the portrayal of the landscape in the collective mind. Through the addition of a solitary figure, I have tried to recall the paintings of Caspar David Friedrich, and his own explorations into national identity, which I believe in the year of the Homecoming is vitally important.
In the series I re-interpret some of the most depicted locations, while still trying to capture something of the vast empty spaces, and the romanticism which is attached to it.
